Migration is a chance to decide
A SharePoint Online migration treated as a file copy is an expensive way to relocate chaos. The destination inherits every leftover permission, every abandoned library, and every “final_v3”.
Decide first: what work is this environment for? Which document types must survive? Which can be archived or left behind? Those questions are the migration design. The tooling comes after.
Discovery should produce a decision backlog, not just a volume report. Owners, duplicates, sensitivity, and active use are more important than gigabytes.
